Birmingham Cat Shows 2015

It had been so long since I felt well enough to go to a cat show, that I felt like a total novice entering the Birmingham shows held at Zamora Temple the last week-end of January 2015. I had only one kitten to show as my two girls were not old enough, so I entered Sterling, the little boy who kept changing color. I finally decided he was a lavender but needed to see what the judges thought of his color. Sterling (Gaia Shooting Star) wasn't too thrilled on the first day to be there but he is a very laid back boy so I knew he would settle in. Each time he was called to a ring he relaxed a bit more and on the last day he knew what was expected of him. I learned that he is indeed a lavender, a very clear lavender that appears almost a silvery white. I received many compliments on Sterling and especially his coloring. The shows were fun for me as I met many  people who had lots of questions about the Devon Rex and several who were also looking to be owned by a Devon. Sterling took 10th best kitten in one of the last kitten finals of the day AND found his furever home as well.

At Last!

After dropping my camera while attempting to take pictures of Luna's latest litter, I have finally learned how to use my new camera.  I decided to buy a newer version of my former camera thinking I would not have any problems learning to use it. Boy was I mistaken! There is a huge difference between the two cameras. I never realized that in a seven year time span so much would change in the area of digital photography. Following is a smattering of my first serious attempts at photographing these latest little gremlins/elves.

First is Rhett Butler.... chocolate and white male (Reserved)

Luna's New Litter

Luna has once again given me a litter of 5 little curly-coated babies. Since I repeated the breeding from this past summer, I expected similar colors, but Luna had other ideas.  PLUS, I have 3 females and 2 males this time. Females are few and far between here at Gaia so I am thrilled that I have three from which to choose. My choice will be a tough one as there is something extra special about each little girl. One is a silver classic and white, one has dark patches of color with a perfectly shaped heart over her left eye and the other appears to be a tortie (a color which I have never had before). One of the boys is a chocolate silver mackerel tabby, while the other is chocolate with white paws and mustache. One thing I have learned is that even the darkest kitten at birth can become a very light version by 4 months of age. I will post pics when these guys are a bit older.

Lacey's litter PLUS an apology

I apologize for dropping out of sight but have not been physically able to work on my blog due to pinched nerves in my neck and lower back. I am now working with a specialist who seems to be helping me overcome the extreme pain without prescription pain killers. I was concerned about my work as a teacher and my Devons, but the future now seems brighter. I am more hopeful now that the source of my problems has been isolated and a treatment plan put into place to help me use my right arm and leg without the pain. yeah!

Lacey's three boys have kept me laughing with their silly Devon antics and I am more determined than ever to not give up on my goals. The boys are now old enough to go to forever homes so I am posting pictures that I took of them today for those of you who are interested. Any questions and letters of inquiry should be sent to gaia_devons@yahoo.com

Blue ? male I can't really decide if he is going to remain blue or not. He has a lot of lavender in his background
and could change color.

Brown Mctabby male...He is full of mischief and play.He is also very affectionate.

Lastly is the red tabby and white boy. I have been partial to him since he was born due to his color and striking markings. He is now living with his forever family in Tennessee.

SNEAK PEAK at Gaia Chocolate Ripple from this summer's wild tribe...I call her Ripley. She is a chocolate smoke Devon and looks a great deal like her mom, Luna.

The Sound of Silence

All of Lily's and Luna's kittens (with the exception of one) left for their new homes the first week-end of August. The silence that remains is almost deafening. To say I miss them is an understatement, but I am content in the knowledge that they went to the very best homes I could hope for. I feel that I have gained new friends in the process and I sleep peacefully knowing that these little guys are definitely loved. There are 3 kittens in  Lacey's litter by Hershey that are almost ready to step up and fill the void left by the others. They have some big paw prints to fill but I am confident they are up to the challenge!

Update-New pics of Hershey x Lacey litter

By the end of this week-end the older kittens will all be sleeping in their new forever homes. It will be very quiet around here for a while.Thank goodness, Lacey's little boys are beginning to play and try to act like Mom Lacey and be "grown up" Devons. They are so adorable when they are at this stage. I am posting pics of the little guys at just 6 weeks of age. I hope you enjoy seeing them as they grow up!
